PUT IT TO WORK
Step by step
- Open /notes/ and sign in. Choose an existing note or select New note to start a private document.
- Edit the title directly above the writing area. Write Markdown text in the editor; changes use the existing autosave flow.
- Watch the save-status indicator and use Ctrl/Cmd+S when you want a manual save. Wait for Saved before relying on a completed write.
- Choose Read to inspect the safe note preview, then return to Write to continue editing.
- Use Version history to review earlier saved versions, and Ctrl/Cmd+K to focus the workspace search.
Write structure in plain text
Markdown keeps the source document readable. Start a heading with a hash sign, use short paragraphs and add bullet points where a list makes the material easier to scan. The underlying file remains text rather than a proprietary visual document.
For example, a checklist can begin with '# Project handoff', followed by '- [ ] Review instructions' and '- [ ] Confirm next steps'. Optional built-in utilities can insert structures into selected text, but the basic editor works without enabling those extras.
Autosave is not public publishing
Saving updates your private note or private user version. It does not authorize sharing the draft. Public sharing has its own content review and confirmation, so an unfinished revision is not automatically pushed into the public collection.
If you open a Shared file and change its title or text, the first successful save creates Your version inside its installed directory. The original stays shared and unmodified. A no-change save does not create a duplicate private file.
Keep work safe across sessions
A version conflict means another session saved newer content. The app preserves the current text and asks you to resolve the conflict instead of silently overwriting it. A failed network request likewise is not evidence that the server saved the note; keep the tab available and retry after recovery.
Notes in the trash are read-only until restored. On browsers or mobile devices where Monaco cannot be used, Folio retains the plain-text editing fallback. The editor bundle is served by this site, and Monaco's MIT license permits its modification and redistribution with the required notices.
Keep in mindSaved status, not merely typing or switching tabs, confirms a completed save. Resolve conflicts deliberately before leaving unsaved work.
Common questions
Is Monaco a separate paid editor?
No. Monaco is MIT-licensed open-source software. Folio serves its editor assets locally and preserves the required license notices.
Can note HTML run in the read preview?
The app treats note content as data and uses a safe preview rather than executing embedded note HTML or scripts.
Find a useful starting point.
Search the shared notes and directory collection, then open your own workspace when you are ready to work. Reading a shared document does not create a private file.
